OR

Wednesday, November 20, 2024, 1-3pm (ET)
Register for 11/20/2024 QPR HERE.

Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) is an evidenced-based skills training program to reduce suicide. This is an online, 2-hour training to help recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. The skills in this program can be applied to prevent suicide deaths within your work and larger community and amongst family and friends. It is based on the theory that:

  1. Those who most need help in a suicidal crisis are the least likely to ask for it. Therefore, we must build knowledge of community members to recognize an impending crisis and offer help.
  2. The person most likely to prevent someone from dying by suicide is someone already known to the individual. Therefore, all community members should know what to do if someone is suicidal.
  3. Prior to making a suicide attempt, those in a suicidal crisis are likely to send warning signs of their distress and suicidal intent to those around them. Therefore, learning these warning signs and taking quick action can save lives.
  4. When we solve the problems people kill themselves to solve, the reasons for suicide disappear. Therefore, crisis intervention, problem resolution, enhancement of protective factors and competent and accessible mental health treatment can help save lives.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the common myths and facts surrounding suicidal behavior.
  • Understand risk factors of suicide and knowledge of protective factors.
  • Recognize and identify warning signs that someone is at risk for suicide.
  • Increase knowledge of referral sources and how to refer someone for help.
  • Demonstrate implementation of the progressive QPR steps.

Those who attend the full training will receive a QPR booklet and certificate of completion through campus mail. This training will not be recorded.

The holidays are not a season of joy for everyone.  For many, this time may serve as a reminder of grief for someone or something that has gone or changed; elevate family dysfunction; increase loneliness; bring additional stress and/or financial hardship; increase seasonal depression and much more.

If this resonates with you, we invite you to join us for this service to honor and give space to the pain, grief, and sadness you may feel ahead of the holidays, in community together.  This service aims to be pluralistic to create respect for diverse beliefs and practices while remaining neutral and inclusive.  Tips for coping with grief and pain during the holidays will be shared and there will be an opportunity to connect in smaller groups to reduce the isolation of this grief, pain, and sadness.

There will be opportunities for sharing and turning on cameras, without any pressure to do so.  You can participate to whatever degree is most comfortable to you; however, due to the vulnerable nature of this session, it will not be recorded.  This service will last up to but no longer than one hour.
